I’m not sure about you, but I take sleep very seriously—it’s arguably the most important part of my self-care routine. Getting at least eight hours, wearing my cozy pajamas, and making sure I’m wrapped up in the softest sheets are all non-negotiables IMO. But this carefully-curated regimen wouldn’t even matter without a comfy mattress to get my beauty sleep on.

Since all great sleep starts with a great mattress, I sought out answers to one of the internet’s burning questions: which mattress brand is better, Casper or Nectar?

I know, I know, it’s hard to pick out a mattress without sitting/lying/sleeping on it IRL, but luckily I sifted through thousands (yes, thousands) of reviews, carefully compared the features of every mattress offered from both brands, and even considered testing insights from our very own editors (myself included), so you can feel good about buying your mattress online!

But first, let’s break down the basics…

Nectar:

  • 365-night trial

  • Sizing: Twin-Split King
  • Price range: $499-$2,598

Casper:

  • Five mattress options: three memory foam and two hybrid
  • 100-night trial
  • 10 Year Limited Warranty
  • Free shipping and returns
  • Sizing: Twin-Split King
  • Price range: $599-$4,990

Firmness and Support

Both Casper and Nectar have various types of mattresses with different firmness levels, so let’s get into it!

Memory foam

The baseline mattresses from both brands, Casper’s The One and The Nectar Mattress, are designed for those who looove that cloud-like feeling while they sleep. So, if you want a memory foam experience (that hugs and responds to your body’s shape and position as you sink into it), then these two are gonna be the ones to choose from.

P.S. Keep in mind that if you tend to sleep really hot, memory foam might not be the best option for you as this material tends to retain heat. Might I suggest looking into a hybrid option instead? More on that in a bit!

  • Casper’s The One starts at $799 for a queen mattress and has a medium-firm feel, which is best for back and stomach sleepers. Casper only has one memory foam option.
  • The Nectar Mattress starts at $649 for a queen mattress and has a medium-firm feel, best for any type of sleeper. Overall, Nectar has three memory foam options— the The Nectar Mattress ($649), the Nectar Premier ($949), and the Nectar Premier Copper ($1,249)

Which is better?

You can’t go wrong with a memory foam mattress from Casper or Nectar—all of them have tens of thousands of rave reviews. For Casper, you’re only gonna have one memory foam option, but sleepers love it. One reviewer said, "I actually had to hunt down the Airbnb we stayed at to find this mattress. We tried 3 others and they couldn't compete... as a side sleeper, it's just as great for me and my stomach sleeping husband."

And Nectar has three options with different levels of firmness and cooling. One sleeper said of Nectar “I’m impressed this came from a box. Very comfortable. I have arthritis and it has really helped me sleep. I was afraid it would be too stiff but it isn't.”

At the end of the day, Nectar’s comes out to be a bit more budget-friendly and is best for any type of sleeper, whereas Casper is a bit pricier and best for back and stomach sleepers. But both are great options, so it depends on personal preference!

Hybrid

Now, if you’re looking for a bit of added support and pressure relief, you’re gonna wanna upgrade to a hybrid version for that combination of foam and coil. Bonus: Both Casper’s and Nectar’s hybrid options are designed for optimal breathability (and therefore cooling!).

  • Casper has two hybrid options, the Snow ($2,495) and Dream ($1,875) mattresses. Both have a medium feel and are great for any type of sleeper whether back, side, or stomach.
  • Nectar has three hybrid options, the Hybrid ($799), the Premier Hybrid ($1,099), and the Premier Copper Hybrid ($1,399). All three have a medium-firm feel and are compatible with any sleep position—the cheapest option is your basic hybrid mattress with some cooling features while the most premium option has the most cooling and heat-wicking features.

Which is better?

While both brands have different signature technology to keep ya nice and cool throughout the night, each brand’s most expensive options are gonna have the most advanced hybrid support technology and cooling abilities. As far as firmness, Casper’s hybrid mattress is going to have a bit of a softer feel, but one downside is that Casper’s hybrids cost a lot more than Nectar’s. While both are v comfy and v supportive, if you’re on a budget, you might want to consider Nectar.

Sizes

Both Casper and Nectar mattresses come in the same expansive size range. This includes twin, twin XL (ideal to replace that flimsy dorm mattress!), full, queen, king, California king, and split king (for those who have different sleep preferences than the person they share a bed with!). This also means your precious mattress will fit perfectly on any standard bed frame.<3

Extras

Okay, I have to admit that when it comes to add-ons and accessories like mattress protectors, sheets, pillows, and every other cherry on top, Casper definitely takes the cake. Not only are the sheets more affordable, but they come in more color options including grey and indigo. Plus, Casper offers more extras like a super comfy dog bed (because our fur bbs deserve as much comfort as us!) and a variety of throw blankets, duvets, quilts, and more to top off your bed.

Pricing

Overall, Nectar mattresses are a few hundred dollars cheaper than Casper’s. As you upgrade to more premium mattresses, the price increases among both brands. Nectar's basic twin starts at $499 and it's most premium hybrid in a California king goes up to $2,598. On the other hand, Casper's baseline twin is $599 and the Snow max in a split king is $4,990. But have no fear, because both websites constantly boast competitive deals and special discounts!

Our testing insights

I’ve slept on Nectar’s Premier Copper mattress for the last few months, and it was a MAJOR upgrade from my old, generic one. It’s perfectly plush without feeling like I’m going to sink through—while still providing ample support for my body throughout the night. I also love that you can’t feel any coils or springs while you lie down or move around on the mattress.

Assistant shopping editor Siena Gagliano has Casper’s Snow mattress. She says, “It achieves the perfect balance between superior comfort and *just* enough firmness so that my body and back are supported, but I still feel like I'm sleeping on a cloud. She adds that “the super cooling cover is a game-changer for sweaty sleepers like me.”

Final thoughts

Okay, I know that was A LOT of information about luxe beds, so I’m gonna sum it up for ya. You can’t go wrong with either mattress in terms of comfort, cooling technology, and support. However, Nectar is a more budget-friendly option (hundreds of dollars is a lot of money!) with a longer sleep trial, an unlimited warranty, and an additional hybrid model. Casper has more variety on levels of firmness throughout its mattress portfolio and boasts a split king option. Overall, you srsly can’t go wrong with either brand, because every sleeper is different!
